Wood Heights Fire Protection District is located in Ray County Missouri just East of Excelsior Springs, Mo.  We are a 100% volunteer dept covering 51 square miles of response area.  We provide full fire suppression services, first responder services, and rescue services to approx 5500 residents.  We provide both city coverage as well as rural coverage.  Our department was founded in 1972 and started as an association initially.  The department changed to a fire district in 1992 which is supported by county tax basis.

In 2004 our department received a FEMA AFG grant to purchase a new front line pumper truck.  The truck is the FIRST brand new pumper the department has ever owned.  The new truck has enabled the department to increase its reliability of response to calls and efficiency with newer equipment that has less down time.  The new truck is more functional and has room to carry more equipment and man power with a single vehicle.  The new truck also has a bigger pump to increase the GPM we are able to pump from a single truck.  In 2009 we received an AFG grant for a new SCBA Compressor, Fill Station, & RIT Pack.  The compressor allows us to fill as many SCBA cylinders as we need as well as fill for neighboring departments that don't have a SCBA compressor.

The department has currently 1 front line pumpers, 1 3000 gallon pumper/tanker, 1 off road pumper/brush truck, 1 light duty brush truck, and a rescue/command vehicle.  We are also looking to expand our rescue equipment to include air bags & hydraulic rams to use during motor vehicle accidents & other situations which may need the use of this equipment.

The department currently has an Insurance ISO rating of 4/6.

ISO REVIEW COMPLETE

Wood Heights Fire Protection District just recently went thru an ISO review process.  This process took almost 2 years to complete and become compliant.  Our new Insurance rating dropped for a 9/10 to a 4/6 for the district.  Some may ask what does this mean.  The ISO review is how homeowner insurance companies rate your policy and how it is priced.  The drop to a 4/6 will save homeowners an average of 50% on there fire insurance costs.  The ISO rating does not do anything for the fire dept but rather it saves the district homeowners a lot of money.  Everyone within the district needs to contact there homeowners insurance company and provide them with the rating to the right.  Insurance companies can click on the file to the right and have the official ISO rating.  Please pass the word to everyone within the district to ensure everyone saves money on there insurance during this troubled economy.  We will leave this information on the main page until the end of the year.  After that time it will be posted on the News/Events Page.
