Tax Levy

Soon you will see flyers out about the tax levy we are placing on the April ballot.  The levy of an additional $0.30 is the first tax increase we have tried to get.  The levy will be used to support the district due to increasing cost of fuel, equipment, supplies, and vehicles.  We have been running off the same $0.30 levy that the district got from forming in the early 90's.  The additional levy is critical for the district so we can replace equipment and tools as well as pay for the increased fuel cost and supplies it takes to run our department.  The money will also help support replacing our 30+ year old station that has a leaking roof, ceilings falling in, and water damage throughout the station.  This increase is critical for the next step of the fire departments 10 year master plan that went into effect 3 years ago.  We are working on getting everything onto a power point and will be happy to distribute it so you can see why we need the increase and how it will effect you.

If you have any questions at all don't hesitate to call the station and ask for Chief O'Dell for further information or email him from the personnel tab above.  Chief O'Dell will be happy to answer any and all your questions.

We are working hard to improve and grow our district. If you have any suggestions or comments we appreciate the information so we can better serve you are citizens and provide the best possible service we can.

FREE SMOKE DETECTORS!!!

If you live within the Wood Heights Fire Protection District we can provide up to (3) Smoke detectors for residents of the district.  This program does not apply to business or to rental property (as they should be provided by the landlord).  If you would like to have up to (3) smoke detectors installed for no charge please email call Chief O'Dell at 816-630-9428 x1 or email him at leeodell@woodheightsfire.com .  We will setup a time to come out to your house, install the detectors, and go over how to maintain the units.  These units have a 10 yr Lithium Ion Battery so and should be good for close to the 10 yr life of the battery.  We have hearing impaired units available also.  Give us a call today so we can help protect you and your family in case of a fire.

Nixle Alerts

Sign up below to receive alerts and warnings for our district.  Items sent out via this text/email program include burn bans, weather notifications, environmental concerns, road closures, fire district meetings, Amber alerts, missing person or lost person notifications, and many more items.

Don't rely on these alerts to be notifications for events prior as depending on the circumstances some alerts may come out during the emergency or after initial on scene units arrive.  We will do our best to notify via text/email alerts on weather watches/warnings for our area prior to the storms as much as possible.

Burn Permits

Burn Permit-  Missouri Dept of Natural Resources requires a burn permit for any open burning inside Ray County Missouri.  No property owner is exempt from this and they must obtain a burn permit from the Fire Dept in there area.  For your convenience you can download the form above by clicking the link.  Once this is filled out please contact our office to obtain an inspection.  Once the inspection is obtained and signed by the fire dept, the property owner will need to mail, fax, or email the form to the Mo DNR office in Lees Summit Mo for authorization.  Mo DNR requires this permit for all open burning and is only valid for brush, limbs, & leaves.  No construction materials, household waste, etc may be burned at all within the county.

Tax Levy for April Ballot

Due to the increasing costs of equipment, supplies, fuel, and needing to replace our outdated station, we are going to place on the April ballot a $0.30 levy increase.  The increase is needed to replace our fire station which is falling in, setup a replacement program for our fire trucks and equipment, as well as keep our current equipment updated and running.  Without this increase we will not be able to replace any equipment as it breaks.  We will hold a public meeting later this year to discuss the levy increase and what it means to you in our district

Board Meeting- Every 2nd Wed of each Month (Some dates vary due to shift assignments)

Public is welcome to attend and ask any questions or bring up any issues you may have with the Fire Dept.  We appreciate any advice or suggestions ,you the public we serve, bring to our attention.

Ray County Fire Chiefs

The Ray County Fire Chiefs Association has been working hard the last few months on improving our mutual aid response plans and putting together a county wide tanker shuttle agreement.  All departments in the Chiefs Association are working hard to help improve our services to the public we serve.  We have also setup a number of training sessions as well.  Recently Sammy Moppin, Lee O'Dell, Joe Cline, Kyle Arnold, & Jamie Davidson went to St Peters, Mo. for a very informative extrication class.  Upon returning we was all certified in auto extrication instructor levels and will be setting up a training session thru the Ray County Fire Chiefs Association to pass on the knowledge and skills we learned there to our member departments.
